Castle Medical Center
Roof: Duro-Last single ply
Comments: This customer obviously expects to be in business 20 years from now. If a roof leaks in the operating room, bad things can
happen. Better to be safe. They want a long term solution that will
cost them less when spread out over their 20 to 30 year life expectancy. Another nice thing: DuroLast doesn't care how much ponding water you have, it's membrane can handle it. They even warranty against interior damage to things like computers, hospital equipment, etc. up to several million dollars. Nobody else does that, to my knowledge. They've been doing it for over 20 years. Is this what people mean by "putting your money where your mouth is?

Contessa Condominiums
Roof: Duro-Last single ply
Comments: This condo has unusually high 12' parapet walls--and lots of ponding water. Most Single Ply Manufacturers won't warranty this roof without an expensive roof tear off and a re-sloping of the roof deck. Duro-Last doesn't worry about that. They can handle, Bro! Duro-Last is custom made to your roofs' dimensions at the factory, so 80% of the field welds are done under ideal conditions and go through a 14 point inspection before shipping. Less time and labor on your roof.

Hukilau Cafe
Roof: Hawaiian SunGuard Cool Roof coating with full fabric reinforcement
Comments: When Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler fell in love-- Hollywood style-- in the movie "50 First Dates" in this North Shore cafe they probably didn't notice that the roof was leaking. Or that it was stinking hot in the summer
time with their old, black asphalt roof. Our "Cool Cool Roof"
coating--Hawaiian SunGuard--stopped all the leaks while keeping these hot actors cool. It's Ceramic Titanium HeatShield lowered roof temperatures by 68 degrees. It can last the lifetime of the building if it has a simple maintenance coat every 10 to 15 years or so, which is easy to roll on. This is the very definition of a "Green Roof"
because you don't have to tear off your old roof and crowd our landfills with toxic oil products. We simply leave in place and coat over it with 5 gallons per 100 SF, and imbed a heavy duty, re- inforcing Polyester fabric to give it great tensile strength.

Honolulu Apartment Building
Roof: Cool roof fabric and coating
Comments: The top picture shows the dreaded Pitch and Gravel roof of olden
days. The first roof I worked on as a teenager in the '70s had me
carrying smelly, hot tar buckets up a ladder to fix a roof similar to
this one. No wonder I am such an advocate of clean, white "Cool
Roof" coatings. The hardest part of this job is trying to scrape the gravel smooth. You can't just broom it off, you have to scrape it
down with a metal blade, called an O'o'. Then we put a thick base
coat of an Asphalt Clay Emulsion that further smoothes out the
bumps. We imbed our fabric into that coating, let it dry, then put a
top coat of Hawaiian SunGuard on the top. It is a lot of work making
the conversion from gravel to a smooth surface, but once it's done
you never have to tear your old roof off. Just maintain the coating over the years with a quick, easy topcoat which takes just a fraction of the time and material of the original. You now have the Ultimate Green Roof. Congratulations!

Kailua Wood Shake
Roof: Cedar wood shakes
Comments: Wood Shake has lost market share over the years for a number of
reasons: it's costly, flammable, and needs to be maintained over
time. However, it is can be an excellent choice if you do it right.
Here's our checklist:
1. Choose the best grade of shake you can afford and make sure it is treated with a preservative before it's installed. See Wood Shakes for your choices.
2. Always use stainless steel fasteners. All the others rust out quickly because the wood retains moisture like a sponge.
3. On this roof, you can see where we used both horizontal and vertical battens to allow the roof to breathe. We also have a Tyvec
waterproof underlayment. Most roofs won't need this overkill, but
this owner only wanted the best.
Shake roofs are natural insulators against heat. Even so, this owner
had us install solar roof vents to prevent against heat buildup in the attic.

Jung Corrugated Rib Coat
Roof: Metal corrugated rib with coating
Comments: "Hawaiian Sunguard was a good option considering cost, durability, and workmanship. It was cost effective, the product helped deflect the heat off the existing metal roof, which was what I was hoping it would do. The crews working on the home were respectful and helpful, they even offered me meaningful advice."

Aruga Cricket
Roof: Cricket on mixed roof
Comments: The ponding water was over 2 inches deep and had no way to drain off the roof. LeakMaster created what is called in the industry a "cricket" (I have no idea how they got that name) to deflect the water towards the edge of the roof.
In this case we used plywood and 2x4" wood framing to create the slope. We also have done it with EPS foam to create the slope. After the slope is created, we sealed it up with a Mulehide Peel and Stick (Self Adhered) membrane. While these "crickets" rarely remove all the water from the roof, they help to make the ponding less so that it evaporates off your roof quicker. Let our estimator know if this is of interest to you for your roof.

Taylor Tile Roof
Roof: Monier Lifetile
Comments:Cracks in the faded tile and mortar (with faded lead flashing paint) was a dismal picture for this multi-million dollar property.
Self adhering flashing is the modern alternative to lead. Capped with a baked on finish counter flashing, this transition not only looks beautiful, but will last the life of the tile. (The SA flashing is "Wakaflex" by Monier Lifetile.)

Ching A/C Ducts
Roof: Cedar shake roof with A/C ducts
Comments: Cooling the living space of a structure is expensive enough, why spend even more money to cool the duct work.
By installing Hawaiian Sunguard on the A/C ducts, not only will they stay watertight, but they will stay airtight as well.
Cool Cedar Shakes, Cool flat roof, Cool A/C ducts. COOL!
