Many failures in roofing systems happen when building movement produces cracking in a roof membrane which cannot accommodate the normal expansion and contraction of building components. But standard rubber roofing membrane, which can stretch to over 300% elongation is greater than the elongation offered by other competitive single-ply roofing membranes, and is clearly far superior to the 2% to 3% elongation offered by traditional built-up roofing.
Superior Weatherability
Black EPDM roofing membrane weathers better than any other roofing membrane, providing the best possible roofing protection available today. To begin with, the basic EPDM rubber polymer is more resistant to weathering than any other roofing polymer, withstanding both extreme heat and frigid cold without any damage to the membrane or system. This highly resistant EPDM polymer is compounded during manufacturing with pure Carbon Black, one of the most weather resistant compounds known. EPDM membrane installed as long as twenty years ago has yet to show significant deterioration due to weathering.
More ways to get the job done
Most roofing systems rely on a single installation method, which may or may not be the best system for your roof deck. Firestone EPDM roofing systems, in contrast, can be installed using a wide variety of methods, including ballasting with smooth river-washed stones or shaped pavers, fully adhering with adhesives, or mechanically attaching to the roof deck with various fastening devices. Firestone RubberGard is available in standard and reinforced membranes. RubberGard Reinforced EPDM combines the flexibility of EPDM rubber the high-tensile strength of polyester fabric that is manufactured right into the membrane. This combination provides better puncture resistance than standard EPDM, offering an even more durable roofing membrane.
