CertainTeed's Presidential shingle has been in Hawaii at least 20 years now and I don't believe I have ever seen a single case of shingle blow off. There may have been a few, I've just never seen them. Why is that? They are thick and reinforced with 3 layers of lamination. Some folks like to mix a few colors together to create a "blended" look. Because they are so thick (known as "Dimensional" in the roof biz) they last a long time. How long? My best guess is about 35 years or so, based on my field observations. I hope to be around 15 years from now to report back to you on my findings.
